YLP IN MELBOURNE
OMG. It's been 2 years since I return and I've been missing from this blog for a year. I thought I better start writing again because I piled up 15 drafts and more to come on my upcoming trip to Gold Coast, Brisbane and Bali! I'm so excited to be back but 15 long overdue posts is enough to make me cry hahaha.
So 2 years ago I went on a Young Leaders Program under Trinity College, University of Melbourne. I've never took a flight alone that was more than 5 hours so this was a new challenge to me. Thanks to air sickness, of course, I wasn't able to sleep so I spent at least 5 hours talking to the air crew. One of the perks of night flight, everyone's sleeping so they're pretty much free to talk & they were more than happy to show me around and share their experience on board! For a young traveller like me, I'm always a loyal AirAsia customer because, well, it's fairly cheap and the staffs are super nice & friendly, always making my flight pleasant. If it wasn't for my air sickness I'd already be an air stewardess.
So, Melbourne.
Beautiful. Magnificent. Gorgeous.
I can't describe further.
My days in camp consist of Psychology lectures, social experiments, and a few excursions. I'll never forget the time we spent a day planning out our social experiments, assigning roles, practicing the act and then headed to Emporium and fool people around with our experiments HAHA. Our team's experiment was having 2 different people of a similar characteristic swap body and "steal food", at the same time seeing if the person beside notices the people's identity was different. I don't know how to explain this but maybe those who studies Psychology have an idea of what I'm talking about? Many people fell for it, looked confused but only one knew exactly what was happening and started laughing. Turns out she was a Psychology professor as well LOL. We intended to do another simple experiment on conformity on the escalator but was too embarrassed to do so HAHAHA.
At least our's wasn't as awkward as another team's experiment where they decided to stick a long roll of toilet tissue into their pants, then walking around the the mall with it, seeing if anyone noticed and went forward to tell them about it. Sadly, only so little was willing to tell them.
My breakfast, lunch and dinner view for a week!
Of course a camp wouldn't be fun without games and movie night! The mentors came up with a theme for the movie night and made us wear our pjs to the movie. I refused so badly I ended up wearing my sports shorts and a sweatshirt HAHA. Hey, it's too cold to be out in thin cotton t-shirt. We watched Big Hero 6 and somehow we all came out teary. I won't wanna get into the games, because I never got the game right fml *embarrassed*.
The landscape in unimelb is amazing!
I have a thing for old buildings!
Eureka Skydeck!!
I made a point to wear something that represent Malaysia for the Valedictory dinner because what better way is there to show the true Malaysian in me to people from many different countries? We received our certificate of participation and had a wonderful night jamming and dancing the night awayin the basement after the dinner.
We were asked to write letters to fellow campers whom we bonded with over the week and place them in their respective paper bags. I'm so happy to receive so much love and i can't thank these people enough. It was the best week in life, so meaningful that I cried on the way to the airport the next day after the camp ends LOL. I still keep these letters and take them out to read often! It's priceless!
